5 Stages – Part 1 – You Cannot Be Gone
It is home with you
Here beneath the pines.
I wait in the dappled light
Hoping you’ll be back soon.
I cannot wait
To greet you tonight
And leap into your open arms.
You’ve been here
A hundred years or more.
Indestructible, eternal,
Though fire has marred your bark.
The air is filled
With the chainsaw’s roar,
But I am safe near your roots.
Surely, you will rise.
Surely, this is not the end.
Your head bleeds, your heart slows,
But you’re stronger than that.
I wait silently
For you to breathe again
And watch your eyes go dim.
I wait, I wait, I wait.
I wait, I wait, I wait.
It is dark.
I don’t know what they want.
It is dark.
They will pack their guns at dawn.
It is dark.
With weary eyes, I watch the stars.
It is dark,
But you cannot be gone.
